The IFoA carries out regular thematic reviews and information gathering exercises looking at topics, roles, and/or areas of work relevant to actuaries. This involves reviews of how work is carried out in practice by actuaries, including a review of the work itself.
Outputs of these reviews and exercises explain and present the scope of the reviews as well as provide relevant analysis, findings, and/or recommendations.
The IFoA Review Team has published its tenth report Pension scheme design: actuarial advice on changes to member benefits.
This is an important area of actuarial work from a public interest perspective, with advice having the potential to significantly impact the benefits received by the members of UK pensions schemes. The report found that, in general, actuarial work was of good quality with sound levels of compliance with standards.
The report author David Gordon, IFoA Senior Review Actuary, said: 鈥淚 am delighted to launch this tenth AMS report which covers pension scheme advice on changes to member benefits.
鈥淚 would like to thank those actuaries from 11 organisations who took part in this review, which included scrutiny of 41 examples of advice and in-depth conversations with some of the actuaries involved.
鈥淚 look forward to discussing this report and its findings with regulators and other stakeholders with an interest in pension scheme design advice.鈥
To support the publication of the report, we are hosting a webinar to explore the key findings on 3 July 2025 from 09:00 to 10:00. The webinar is free to all IFoA members.
